Masters of Migration: Strengthening the Foundations for What’s Next

By the Megan Johnson (Digital Transformation Manager) & Neil Wolno (CFO)
At TIB, our priority has always been to serve our clients well – not just for today, but for the long term. Over time, as our business has grown, so too has the complexity of our client base. As a result, we’ve had to ensure that the systems supporting our work are strong enough to keep up.
That’s why, over the past year, we undertook one of the most significant operational changes in our history: a full migration from a long-standing legacy policy administration system to a modern, future-ready platform.(Read the full Cardinal case study here).
Here’s why these annual portfolio reviews are essential:
Why Change was Necessary
Our previous system served us faithfully for many years and helped shape who we are today. However, as policy volumes increased, reporting requirements became more complex. At the same time, expectations around speed and accuracy continued to rise.
Eventually, it became clear that we had outgrown what the system could offer.
Importantly, this decision wasn’t about chasing new technology. Rather, it was about ensuring we could continue to deliver the level of service, reliability, and insight our clients and partners expect from us.
As Neil Wolno, CFO at TIB, shared during the process:
“The benefit of a system evolution is that it touches every aspect of the business: the data, the processes, our people, and our clients… it’s daunting change.”
What We Did
After careful consideration, we partnered with Cardinal Insurance Management Systems to implement their C360 platform Beyond the technology itself, what stood out was Cardinal’s understanding that system change is as much about people as it is about software.
After careful consideration, we partnered with Cardinal Insurance Management Systems to implement their C360 platform(read the full case study here). Beyond the technology itself, what stood out was Cardinal’s understanding of change. In practice, system transformation isn’t only about software… it’s about people.
Internally, we prioritised change management, training, and clear communication. In addition, a dedicated Digital Transformation Manager helped guide teams through the transition. This ensured support was available at every stage, especially for those who had worked on the legacy system for many years.
Ultimately, the goal was simple: to make the change without disrupting the service our clients rely on.
What this Means for You
Today, the benefits of this migration are already being felt across the business, and, by extension, by you.
- More reliable data and reporting, enabling better insights and decision-making
- Improved efficiency, resulting in quicker turnaround times
- A stronger foundation for growth, allowing us to scale without compromising service
- Greater consistency and resilience, which helps reduce the risk of disruption
In short, this change allows us to spend less time working around system limitations. Instead, it gives us more time to focus on what matters most: our clients.
As Neil reflected on the partnership:
“With Cardinal, we’ve never felt like a number; it’s always felt like a partnership.”
A Note from the TIB Team
Naturally, change of this scale is never easy. It stretches teams, disrupts habits, and requires patience. At the same time, it brings clarity and perspective. In many ways, it reminds us why we do what we do.
This wasn’t just a technical upgrade. Rather, it was a commitment to doing the hard work now, so we can serve with excellence in the years ahead.
Our mission to Trust, Inspire, and Believe remains unchanged. What has changed, however, is our ability to support that mission with systems that now match our ambition and values.
Looking ahead, we’re excited about what this enables… for our people, our partners, and most importantly, for you.
